Edgewalkers 2018 Highlights - from idea to reality

Edgewalkers…what an adventure! Margaret River, Western Australia

“The world always seems brighter when you have just made something that wasn’t there before.” Neil Gaiman

Don’t you agree? Don’t you get a little thrill every time you do or make something you have not done or made before? And I’m not talking about something ‘serious’ or ‘important’ like designing a new building or a coming up with new medicine. I’m talking about the small delights of making a new recipe, or the joy of writing a poem, a song, or even a lovely message on a greeting card. I’m talking about the joy knitting a beanie; planting a new succulent garden, or starting a book club. I’m talking about the thrill of creating new memories whether from a picnic with friends to an adventure through a foreign country.

Creating Edgewalkers and leading it to where it is now has been one small (sometimes big) thrill after another. It has also been a journey of learning and great vulnerability. A journey of uncertainty and instability. A journey that saw me invest everything I have, work two jobs, live in a friends’ spare room for three months…and not see my family overseas for three years.

But like Bréne Brown says: ‘Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change’.

In September 2015 I had an idea, I ran with it, and here we are.

We have now shared the beauty of the Cape to Cape track with people from Canada, England, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Holland, Zimbabwe, Syria, Indonesia, the US, France, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and of course from all over Australia. We have walked people through the natural beauty of the Fitzgerald Biosphere and the spectacle of the Mongolian wilderness…and we have eight walking & creativity retreats under our belts and many more planned for 2019.

None of this existed before then.

Whatever you are driven to create, big or small, start now… just start…do one thing towards it and let it unfold. There will be struggles because that is part of the creative life, but for me, that is what makes the world a brighter place!

Creating is in our nature. Nature is our creative inspiration.

May 2019 give you all opportunities to spend time in nature; may it bring inspiration and courage to live a self-expressive & creative life.

Edgewalkers highlights from 2018.

Climbing Malchin Peak in the Tavan Bogd National Park , northwest Mongolia with these two badass women - definitely a highlight.

Quoin Head in the background - walking the Hakea Trail in the Fitzgerald River National Park, Sept 2018 - huge highlight!

Spending time under the night sky during our third Night Photography Retreat in Margaret River - awe inspiring every time.

Seeing my first Leopard Orchid in early November this year - another highlight!
